Head of Innovation and Staff Development
2009 - current
Management  & Administration
  • As ​Head of Innovation and Staff Development, I am the strategic lead for innovation and staff development. Conceptualises and implements innovation, 21st Century Learning Design and technology in the classroom.

  • As a member of the Primary School and Secondary School Management Teams, I was responsible for implementing innovation in the curriculum and staff development, including robotics and coding. As part of these teams, other duties include school timetabling, school administrative tasks, change management, staff development, parent meetings, and other school functions.

  • As Head of IT Services, I have been part of the Whole School Management Team. My functions include selecting and implementing suitable technology to modernise internal operations, overseeing the school's technological infrastructure (networks and computer systems) to ensure optimal performance, and testing the IT department's objectives and strategies. I was responsible for the school’s extensive IT Budget and the management of IT staff and contracted support staff. 

  • As a Brescia House School Board IT Sub-committee member, I have been responsible for running the whole School’s IT infrastructure and keeping the Board and School updated with the latest trends, devices, platforms, software, and infrastructure for the inclusion of technology in education.

  • School Administration System administrator for the whole school, including admissions, debtors, and school fees billing reports, timetabling, marks and reports administration.

Teaching
  • Grade 10-12: Computer Applications Technology 

  • Grade 10-12: Information Technology (Java & Delphi)

  • Project-based learning and ICT subject workshops (Grades R-12).

  • Grade 4-9: Lego Coding and  Robotics Club.

  • Team Teaching and Substitute Teacher for ICT-integrated and IT Skills lessons (Grades R-9).

  • Blended Mathematics lessons for Grade 4 learners.

  • English storybook creation using Book Creator App on iPads with Grade 2 learners and educators.

  • Substitute teacher - Grade R.

  • Since 2016, conceptualised, branded, fundraised, organised, and hosted the annual Brescia House School CuriosITy Initiatives to encourage grade 11 girls from various schools across Gauteng to pursue IT-related careers.

Innovation in Curriculum
  • 1:1 Laptop Initiative: Grades 4 – 12 included selecting a suitable device, parent introduction meetings to the 1:1 initiative, staff and learner training on device use, software and School-specific applications, curriculum integration, and use at school.

  • Windows devices in the curriculum: Since 2014, implementation, development, staff training, and team-teaching initiatives to encourage the inclusion of Windows Devices in teaching the curriculum Grades 4-12.

  • iPads in the curriculum: Since 2013, implementation, development, staff training, and team-teaching initiatives to encourage the inclusion of Apple iPads in teaching the curriculum in the Foundation Phase (Grades R-3).

  • Project-based learning and team teaching with class teachers to implement technology-integrated projects.

  • iSTEAM: In 2016, an introduction of a STEAM focus in Grades 4 to 9, including a strong emphasis on coding. Technologies implemented include Little Bits, Makey Makey, WeDo Lego, EV3 Lego, and Scratch.

  • Promethean ActivTables: In 2013 and 2014, the purchase, training, and team-teaching of an ActivTable (a Promethean interactive table with specialised software for collaboration) in Foundation Phase classrooms.

Staff Development
  • Change management of implementing new technologies/devices in teaching and learning.

  • Developing a culture of learning amongst staff.

  • Implementation of staff computer skills training and workshops focusing on new technologies.

  • Develop and implement staff training initiatives to increase the number of Brescia House School educators recognised as Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts by Microsoft’s global innovation programme.

  • Develop and implement staff training initiatives to increase the number of Brescia House School educators passing the global examination to be certified as Microsoft Certified Educators.

  • Develop and implement staff training initiatives to complete the Apple Teacher course and submit entries in the South African Apple Teaching awards.

  • Conceptualised, branded, fundraised, organised, and hosted the Brescia House School TeachMeets. Since June 2015, one TeachMeet has been held every term to promote Teacher Development for Brescia House School staff and teachers from schools across Gauteng.

New Systems Implemented
  • 2021 – Part of the School POPIA Committee and registered Deputy Information Officer.

  • 2020 – Implementation and change management of Microsoft Teams as an organisational platform, including the migration to Teams voice; the migration of the local school servers to the Azure cloud; implementation of Microsoft 365 and Teams from Grade R -12 and all staff.

  • 2019 – Created and deployed a Primary School Sports’ Teams App using Glide. This enabled real-time access to sporting team lists and fixtures for parents.

  • 2019 - Participated in the design team and the implementation of a new school website.

  • 2018 - Implementation and change management of School Administration System across the school and all departments from Pencilbox to Scadsys.

  • 2017 - Implemented solution for learner Extramural and staff time and attendance.

  • 2016 - Implemented solutions for the Foundation (School’s trust and bursary fund) and a system for the finance office for asset control.

  • 2016 - Conceptualization, development, and implementation of a School Smartphone App (Android & Apple).

  • 2016 - Led the design team and implementation of a new school website.

  • 2015 - Implemented a system for purchasing at the school shop with cashless options.  

  • 2014 - Brescia House School Resource Centre re-development into modern educational space.

  • 2012 - Implement online forms for the ordering of stationery and textbooks.

  • 2012 - A cashless system for purchasing at the school tuck-shop and upgraded library solution.  System integration with Pencilbox to ensure consistency.

  • 2012 - Participated in the design team and led the implementation of a new school website.

Microsoft Showcase School
  • Responsible for Brescia House School participation in the Microsoft Showcase School program.

  • Brescia House School has been recognised as a Microsoft Showcase School from 2014 to 2023.

  • Showcase Schools create immersive and inclusive experiences that inspire lifelong learning, stimulating the development of essential life skills so students are empowered to achieve more. A global community of schools engaged in digital transformation to improve teaching and learning.

  • IEB Internal Moderator – Computer Applications Technology (2012 - 2017)

  • Curriculum Representative of the Computer Applications Technology Gauteng User Group (2007).

  • I organised and hosted the IEB National User Group Conferences for Computer Applications Technology (2008) and Information Technology (2008).

St Stithian's Girls' College

  • IT Director.
